SCALED DOWN TO REDUCE WEIGHT

Great alpine challenges are calling you this summer. Whether on Dent Blanche surrounded by its mighty glaciers or on the protruding Weisshorn in the Valais Alps – our new PEAK LIGHT is THE companion for demanding alpine tours. It is EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT, TECHNICAL and even more FUNCTIONAL with the new SWISSWOOL TEC KNIT BACK SYSTEM.

SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT back system

The SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM stands for the innovative synthesis of a TECHNICAL FOAM BACK with HEAT-PRESSED SWISS WOOL covered with a 3D HIGH-TECH KNITTED FABRIC. The wool pads are used in the zones that come into contact with the back, storing large volumes of moisture without feeling wet.

SCALED DOWN TO REDUCE WEIGHT

The PEAK LIGHT combines STABILITY, WEAR COMFORT and a LIGHT WEIGHT. The total weight of 1100 g* can be reduced by a further 380 g* by simply removing the TOP, HIP FINS, WIRE FRAME FOR THE BACK and other external fastening options. A minimal 720 grams* of weight thus widens the range of use, from long alpine tours to pitch after alpine pitch.

* +/- 4% due to production and material fluctuations.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The PEAK LIGHT 32 for men and The PEAK LIGHT 30 S with extra short back system, are our alpine lightweights made for demanding alpine tours. These backpacks are very robust yet incredibly light thanks to the use of the extremely tear and abrasion resistant material Nylon 420D Oxford. This Nylon fabric is one of the lightest materials that we use for our backpacks. The material is also PU-coated and thus water-resistant.
The new triangular construction of the lid allows for variable adjustment with rope fastening without slippage. The lid is completely removable or storable in the main compartment. When stored in the main compartment, the lid’s zipper can still be easily opened. The lid compartment has two sections. Taped seams make the lid completely waterproof.
For the PEAK LIGHT, we have concentrated on the important features and dispensed with anything unnecessary. Of course, the PEAK LIGHT has all the important features such as a rope and ice axe fixation, load control cords, helmet net, material loops, hip pocket, a map compartment and the circumferential zipper for quickly accessing the main compartment from the front. Safety equipment is held securely inside thanks to the safety attachment. In addition, the standard ORTOVOX features include an emergency card, chest strap with signal whistle, compression strap, bright interior color, hydration system compatibility and a ski holder.
These carefully considered features, the low weight and innovative back system make the PEAK LIGHT a highly functional alpine tour backpack where doing without means greater functionality.

Summary of Customer Ratings

( 4 )
Pros -Love the pack fabrics. Good waterproofing and the strength/weight/stiffness seems ideal. -Nice narrow shape. From a packing and organization standpoint the shape is simple, which means it doesn't have inefficiently shaped nooks and crannies that go unfilled. -Access points - I like the top loader main-style, but with the quick access zipper so I don't have to unpack to get to less frequently used items at the bottom of the pack. -Comfortable padding on straps and waist belts, but not over-done. Well sized for the intended weight range. I tend to keep the waist buckle attached at the left side (not centered on my belly), then I just tighten the strap singlehandedly with my right hand. Then I can store the excess waist strap inside the velcro garage on the left hip. -Nice top lid adjustment - I like the top lid anchoring system. It's adjustable, but not floppy. I have found that when the pack isn't full, I tend to put open the main compartment and tuck the toplid inside, essentially making the top lid zipper a quick access pocket inside the main compartment. Then I just pull the lid out, rather than unbuckle it to get to items below. When raining or when full, I buckle down the toplid. -Surprised by how much I like the right velcro hip pocket. More functional and secure than I imagined. Great for a camera. -Looks great. -Carries well. Cons -Sweaty / hot contact points. I've sweated a lot on my back and under the shoulder straps, far more than I can remember sweating in any other pack. I wouldn't mind a bit more ventilation, maybe from perforations in the shoulder straps. I suspect the pack will really come into it's own during crisp fall days, when the warmth is welcomed. But for now, I'm having to wash my work shirts daily to get the salt out where it tends to accumulate at the margins of the pack straps and the sides of the wool lumbar panel. It's funny, I'm really not a very sweaty person at all, but you'd never guess it by the white salt encrusting my shirt on a warm day. -Chest strap - The chest strap could use just a little more length. I'm only ~155, and I run that chest strap at full extension much of the time. I imagine a 200'er wouldn't be able to use the chest strap at all. -Smell - This is the first pack I've needed to wash routinely. I've found if I just come home and spray the backpanel w/ water from my hose it keeps the salt and stink at bay. It's super easy to do, but a new level of maintenance I've not had with a pack before.
I just got the pack a couple of days ago. I've tried it in the outdoors once and I'm blown by it. The first thing you notice once you pick it up is the weight. It's extremely light. As Adam said in his review, this pack has replaced nearly all other packs I have except the big haulers. The pack is very modular, you can strip it down (top lid, aluminium construction and hip belt) to almost nothing, it weights maybe 600 grams. Also very functional. You can use it all year around. Crazy orange is such a beautiful color. This is my favorite pack now.
I've been through a zillion climbing packs (Marmot, Black Diamond, Petzyl, Cilogear, Osprey, Deuter, REI) but this pack impresses me. I've had it a few months, day hiking—I never heard of Ortovox—and this last week used it for May climbing and peak bagging in the eastern sierra off and on trail over snow and rock. Seems really tough, light, and well made, and for some reason, this set of features just works together really well. The packs carries well too—even with the frame stripped out. With the frame in, I had twenty pounds all on my waist. I think it could go thirty. The hip belt is large enough to take real weight but still smallish and strippable. The bag has a functional shape and hugs close to your back. I'm going to use it this summer for overnight peak bagging.
After using this pack for a little over a month it has replaced a handful of others as my go-to alpine and backcountry gear hauler. Super lightweight, well designed, and durable I feel like this pack has everything I need and nothing I don't. Well done Ortovox!
