A LOT OF PROTECTION, MINIMAL PACK SIZE!

Ultra-lightweight, minimalistic, waterproof hardshell jacket for alpine tours

Our revamped MERINO HARDSHELL LIGHT continues to impress thanks to the combination of extreme lightness (68g/m²) and its HIGH-PERFORMANCE DERMIZAX® DT MEMBRANE from Toray. The 2.5 layer construction features the water column (min. 10,000mm) of a hardshell and the lightness and breathability (min. 20,000g/m2/24h) of a windbreaker. The patented MICRO BEAD STRUCTURE on the interior provides long-term scuff resistance for the membrane underneath and feels comfortable on your skin thanks to the quick moisture wicking. Tiny, integrated beads (micro beads) in the structure mean that moisture can be more quickly absorbed and released to the membrane. This makes it feel dry against the skin. The material does not feel sticky or wet.

New features such as the elastic waist and the chest pocket make the MERINO HARDSHELL even more functional: The jacket can now be completely stored in the inner pocket and, thanks to the loop on the inside, can be quickly fastened to a climbing harness or compressed to save space and stored in a backpack. The lightweight jacket is therefore the perfect companion on alpine tours where light weight, a small pack size and high protection are required.

In addition, this highly functional rain jacket is equipped with a self-regulating hood. A circumferential elastic band and a reinforced peak ensure an optimum fit in wind and rain, while discreet MERINO COOL inserts increase wear comfort around the chin and forehead area.  The elastic cuffs and the elastic seam prevent any unwanted wind and moisture penetrating. There is still ample storage space in the breast pocket for a maps, trail bars or cell phone.

The ultra-light 2.5 layer jacket for men focuses on the essentials without compromising on functionality and comfort.

Perfect weather protection with a small pack size. I always have it in my backpack when mountain biking, which has made one or the other descent much more pleasant. I would buy again anytime! Have fun out there!

I am 6' (182 cm) and 180# (81 kg) and have size L in this jacket. I had been using the Civetta as my emergency storm shell and I rarely pulled it out of my pack, but I recently tried it out on a stiff wind / blowing wet snow kind of morning. After chugging uphill for an hour I was impressed with the protection the jacket offered, while remaining highly breathable. I find the sleeve cuffs are better suited for either lower volume, gasket-style gloves, or over-the-cuff/gauntlet-style ski gloves. On the downhill, the Civetta was roomy enough for athletic movement and the hood stayed in place despite the headwind. Overall, the Civetta is a simple jacket that provides hardshell protection that you would expect from jackets way above its weight class. Given its weight however, I am concerned with the jacket's durability -- this isn't going to be my shell for the trees. Also, while the hood is form fitting over a winter hat or baseball cap, there really isn't much room to wear it over my climbing helmet.

This light weight rain jacket is simply amazing. I don't know what weird science Ortovox used to make this jacket, but this is by fare the lightest rain jacket I've ever had, as well as the best on-skin feel. It is so light, yet had kept me dry when the sky has opened up. It's so light and packs down to almost nothing, that it's always with me. I highly recommend this jacket.

This is another piece of Ortovox magic. How can a jacket this light be 2.5 layers?! This jacket packs down to almost nothing so you can always have it in a pack. This jacket is fantastic at repealing water. I also use this as a wind jacket, thought it doesn't breath as well as the Ortovox's Merino Windbreaker. Because the jacket has merino in it, it feels great on the skins, not like your normal plastic feeling rain coat. I'm blown away by this jacket. I highly recommend the 2.5L Civetta jacket.

Really well done rain jacket, is super comfortable and easy to wear, even directly on a t-shirt! Was skeptical at first because there is no underarm ventilation, I wore the jacket on my summer vacation in the mountains of South Tyrol, super breathable and dries quickly. So far (after about 1 year of use) I haven't had to re-impregnate, the rain still rolls off properly! Even a daypack hasn't damaged the jacket so far, very robust despite the very thin material! In my opinion, the price-performance ratio fits, although the €290 is also a proud price! Would still buy the jacket again!

Wonderful jacket, super functional, however bear in mind that it does not have any insulation and therefore make sure that you have adequate layers beneath to keep u warm in cold days

I am 190 cm and 80 Kg. This jacket has been the perfect match for my hiking and climing tours the past one and a half years. It is extremely lightweighted and compact and has the capabilities of a hard shell jacket. It is absolutely water- and windproof. The hood fits well over a cap or and stays in place despite any windy/stormy conditions. I found the cuffs to be ver neetly fitting over a thin pair of gloves.

Great jacket. Absolutely waterproof, extremely light, I wouldn't call the jacket windproof from my own experience.

I ran a day in the rain with this jacket on a stage of the Camino Primitivo (Spain, low mountain range). After that, the membranes (inside) in the pelvic area were worn through.

Servus Dominik, thank you for your review. The fact that the membrane in the pelvis area comes off or wears through is really unusual and of course it shouldn't be like that. Therefore, please complain about your product via your reference dealer. It is best to send a few photos with it so that the process can be completed as quickly as possible. If you bought your item from our online shop, we are the right contact person.
