NEW SNOW

New snow presents the danger of snow slab and loose snow avalanches, which can sometimes be (very) big. Spontaneous avalanches and artificial triggering, e.g. by winter athletes, are possible, remote triggering is typical. This problem is usually widely distributed and spread across all slope aspects. The weak layer can usually be found at the transition to the old snow surface; less often within the old snowpack (snow slab), or in a new snow layer (loose snow avalanche). The danger is present during snowfall and up to one or two days afterward.
