HOW WE TURN OUR MERINO WOOL INTO THE FINISHED PRODUCT

Many individual steps are necessary for turning sheared wool into a high-quality ORTOVOX product. Only if all processes are intertwined flawlessly and with high quality-awareness can we create the goods that you know us for. Take a look at the creation process:

FUNCTIONALITY OF MERINO WOOL

Wool can absorb more than 35% of its own weight in moisture (without feeling wet to the touch). If the ambient air is warm, the moisture dries faster, resulting in this refreshing evaporative coolness.

With wool, you can get by with just a few items of clothing, even on mountain hikes lasting several days. This is made possible by the protein molecules in the merino fibers which simply destroy odor-forming bacteria.

The special finishing of our merino wool with the “Total Easy Care” process makes it possible to simply machine wash at 30 or 40°.

Wool fibers are hydrophilic fibers – and that’s precisely what makes them extremely functional! They can absorb up to 35% of their own weight in moisture without feeling wet to the touch.

Merino wool does not itch! At 16,5 – 19,5 microns (one micron = one-thousandth of a millimeter), the fine wool fibers are so thin that they are well below the human itching threshold of 25 microns.

Wool is ecological by nature! Depending on their race, merino sheep are shorn once to twice a year – so they grow a new coat all by themselves.
