Safety Academy - Skills for advanced alpine routes
Experience the world of glaciers with our Ortovox SAFETY ACADEMY high alpine touring course! Our comprehensive training course will provide you with the tools you need to succeed safely in an alpine environment. Careful planning and preparation are essential for quickly identifying and avoiding alpine risks. We place particular emphasis on the selection and safe use of your equipment, including important knot techniques to help you in a wide range of situations. The course teaches the fundamental techniques and procedures for independent glacier and high alpine tours — from safe movement and rope team organization to initial rescue techniques. The course concludes with a hands-on practice tour in high alpine terrain.
Our experienced mountain guides will not only teach you how to safely use a rope, ice axe and crampons, but also how to walk and orient yourself safely and independently on glaciers. Prepare yourself for unforgettable high alpine touring adventures and acquire the skills to conduct them safely and independently. Safety in the mountain is our top priority!

Details High alpine Touring course
Learning basic knowledge and skills for glacier, ice and high alpine tours, walking safely with crampons and ice axes, fall techniques, the correct way to rope up and handle equipment, and first rescue techniques. The course is rounded off with a specially planned practice tour to one of the surrounding summits.
Course requirements:
- Basic knowledge or courses in mountaineering
- Safe footing on the approach area and good fitness for 4-5 hour climbing routes approaches
- Knowledge of knotting techniques is an advantage, but not mandatory
Course content:
- Alpine dangers & weather assessment
- Knots and anchor materials
- Tour planning
- Orientation
- Ropework and anchoring techniques
- Walking with rope, ice axe & crampons
- Vertical & front-pointing technique in crampons
- Belay anchor construction – snow & ice
- Crevasse rescue
- Preventing falls
Course goals:
- Imparting basic knowledge and skills of glacier, ice and mountain tours
- Safe walking with crampons (walking in balance and front-pointing)
- Self-larresttechniques
