Lightweight, versatile climbing backpack for alpine activities

Weighing in at just 845 grams, the TRAD 25 is a lightweight among climbing backpacks. At the same time, it is equipped with many important features, including a rescue system for emergencies. Combined with the new SAR 1 rescue system, a Recco reflector integrated in the backpack ensures that injured or missing persons can be located quickly. This climbing backpack also has a lightweight and very flexible aluminum frame, which can be removed if required. The main compartment can be accessed with ease using the circumferential zipper or the innovative cover opening. And of course, it would not be complete without attachment options for rope and ice axe, as well as hydration system compatibility and images of Alpine emergency signals.

Recco’s SAR1 rescue system is a helicopter-based detector that can be used to search large areas for people in distress in the shortest time possible. A small reflector, which is integrated into the TRAD climbing rucksacks, is required for visibility. This ensures that people can be located quickly and provides the best possible protection, no matter what the season. The SAR1 system is already being used in many areas.

The back system for this climbing backpack offers a light-weight, removable aluminum frame and a full-contact carrying system. The frame is very flexible, but rigid along the horizontal axis in order to bear as much weight as possible. Thanks to its 3d shape, the backpack fits closely to the back and guaranties great freedom of movement and the best possible wear comfort.

It is a very good product: convenient, light, esthetic, functional. Since I tried the circumferential zipper, I don't know how could I lived without it and it became a must for my future backpacks. I guess Ortovox assesses that the pack is not designed for skitouring, because it does not have a separate safety compartment. But the inside bottle holder elastic serves very well to hold my shovel and probe, thus I use it not only for climbing and alpine, but also skitouring. The volume is perfect for one-day trips, I did two days with it too, but it gets a bit tight. I don't give 5 starts because: it is not waterproof , ice tools holders are operable only without gloves, the main lid closing is too short when the backpack is fully packed and I have to use and extension to close it and it is either the camelback or the aluminium frame, which the producer does not say clearly and a buyer could expect water bladder space separate from the frame space. In any case, I would surely buy it again.
