Lightweight, very functional backpack for demanding alpinists

Highlights

  • Lightweight, minimalist design
  • Swisswool HYBRID BACK SYSTEM ensures comfortable wearing
  • Highly sustainable thanks to recycled materials

With the PEAK LIGHT 32 the name says it all: Made for the most demanding summit projects in the high mountains, the lightweight, robust and durable alpine touring backpack comes without unnecessary bells and whistles and convinces with all important holders, its minimalist design and low weight. All those who want to save additional weight can remove the hip belt, lid and back reinforcement, ice axe holder and D-Skifix. In this way, the already low weight can be reduced by another 30% in no time at all. Another special feature is the innovative Swisswool HYBRID BACK SYSTEM: At the particularly stressed contact areas, three soft Swisswool pads ensure a comfortable fit and a good body climate by absorbing a lot of humidity without feeling wet. This means that even strenuous passages on the mountain can be mastered comfortably and the next summit is guaranteed to be a pleasure. Those who opt for the PEAK LIGHT 32 also do something good for the mountains: The two main outer materials are made of 100% and 50% recycled polyamide, which makes the backpack not only particularly sustainable, but also extremely robust, resistant and durable. In addition, the variable all-rounder is PFC-free. The sophisticated features, the low weight and the innovative back system make the PEAK LIGHT 32 a highly functional backpack for alpinists, where renunciation stands for more function.

Great backpack for mountaineering! Light but still robust and with all the necessary features. The all-round zipper is great, you can always get to everything in the backpack. I removed the top loader and hip belt.

What an excellent up-and-over pack. This is the one I choose for trips up-and-over Cannon Cliff, like Moby Grape or Whitney-Gilman. It’s got enough room to bring all the essentials comfortably in on the approach, then it compacts down for easy, lightweight climbing. I really like how the lid of the pack quickly comes off, allowing you to stuff it in the main compartment and streamline things. And I like to take the padded waist belt off, as I won’t be using it once my harness is on–excellent versatility. The exterior is super-durable–useful on Moby Grape’s “Fickle Finger of Fate” and other grungy off-width type climbing. It’s also a great size for day ski touring, with great attachment options for axes/tools and helmets. Given that I’m an Ortovox Ambassador, you’d be justified in taking my review with a grain of salt, but, all-in-all, if you want one pack for all your day missions–climbing, backcountry skiing, hiking, or otherwise–the Peak Light 32 is an excellent option. Bad stitching for an overall good backpack, I wouldn't buy it again since main pocket stitches of the bottom went broken out of nothing, it's clear that is because of a bad quality manufacturing process, because the other parts are still in great shape... Leider… I searched for a suitable backpack for a long time and settled on this one about a year ago (32 l, in black). It's a beautiful looking backpack, comfortable, and very practical! I used it mainly for shopping in the city and less so for mountain hikes. Unfortunately, I had to return the backpack because the hip belt had already started to show signs of wear, which I believe is due to a design flaw (sharp edges). Otherwise, I think the quality is fine. Ortovox's support was problem-free throughout the entire return process, and I received a full refund of the purchase price (€220) – even after a year of use! That's great, but of course also a bit of a shame, because now I'm faced with the question of which backpack to buy again. Ortovox is no longer an option, as the same problems would likely arise again after a short time. Unfortunately…
