Driven by a deep commitment to quality, repairability, care, and second life, we do everything we can to keep our products in use for as long as possible. With textile-to-textile recycled materials, this ambition reaches a new level: new ORTOVOX products are created entirely from 100% post-consumer textiles. At the same time, we take circular thinking one step further by designing our products so they can be recycled again at the end of their life cycle.

One of our core objectives at ORTOVOX is to establish a true circular textile economy. With the RE:volution TS – our first circular and fully recyclable product from the MTB collection – we have brought this ambition to life for the very first time:

A shirt made from 100% textile-to-textile recycled polyester – sourced from so-called post-consumer textiles, i.e. end-of-life garments – that can itself be recycled again. As a complete product: including all prints and components.
Developed and manufactured in Europe, the RE:volution TS is consistently designed as a circular, mono-material product. The print visually reflects this circular approach: the motif of the Ouroboros – the snake biting its own tail, symbolizing a closed loop – represents the process of renewal and the power of transformation.

The perfect loop – a self-starter?

Recycling is not a new concept. We have all grown up separating glass, paper, and organic waste. In the textile sector, however, recycling is still not a widely established approach. Textile-to-textile recycling (T2T) converts cutting scraps, production waste, and discarded textiles into new fibers. Sounds good.

So why isn’t everyone doing it?
Recycled textile fibers depend heavily on the purity of the input material. While plastic bottles are made from a single type of plastic, many textiles consist of blended fabrics. In addition, there are seams, buttons, zippers, coatings, adhesives, and trims. This makes sorting and processing much more complex – and it is still often done manually. For product development, this means using as few different materials as possible and designing everything to be easily separable. For a highly functional ORTOVOX product, this is particularly challenging, because …

“Our ambition is to develop products that perform reliably in all alpine conditions and ensure a long service life. To guarantee this high level of functionality, we deliberately combine different fibers. This results in durable products that are precisely optimized for their intended use – even if this means they are not fully recyclable.”

Recycled polyester from PET bottles is a step in the right direction, but it does not close the loop. Textile-to-textile recycling paves the way for a truly circular transformation.

From pioneering work to the new normal

We firmly believe that textile-to-textile recycling is the right solution. Together with other stakeholders – recyclers, institutes, manufacturers, and brands – we are working across the industry to build the necessary infrastructure. We are still at the beginning of this journey. At the same time, we are well aware that there is still much to learn, as most of our products are more complex than a shirt. But we are on our way.
