THE FREERIDE FAVORITE FOR FREEZING TEMPERATURES

Robust freeriding jacket with warm SWISSWOOL insulation for particularly cold days

Highlights

  • windproof and water-resistant, yet breathable and scuff resistant
  • SWISSWOOL insulation adapted to each area of the body
  • soft merino wool in the chin area

With our SWISSWOOL VERBIER JACKET for men, you won’t be following the masses – you’ll be going your own way! For our SWISSWOOL BLACK line, we process the wool of black sheep from the Swiss Alps. Inspired by these wild four-legged creatures, this line stands for individuality and maximum protection on icy days of freeriding.

The rare black wool used in the front and back areas weighs just 200 g/m², and in the arms and hood just 150 g/m², offering excellent freedom of movement. This is protected by new PERTEX® QUANTUM PRO material, which has been made even more weather resistant thanks to its PU coating. Two-layered DERMIZAX® NX membrane inserts in the shoulders ensure stability and protection.

Details such as the dually adjustable hood, elastic inner seam and adjustable waistband guarantee a perfect fit, keeping cold air and snow at bay. Fine merino wool ensures a good soft fit in the chin area. Two backpack-optimized front pockets, an inner pocket and ski pass pocket provide space for those small items you might need quickly when freeriding.

The SWISSWOOL VERBIER PARKA for women will get you ready to head off and carve endless lines in powder!

Material

SWISSWOOL BLACK
SWISSWOOL offers excellent thermal properties and optimum climate comfort. In addition to high functionality, SWISSWOOL is characterized by its regional origin and sustainable production and processing. The unusual feature of SWISSWOOL BLACK is its use of black wool: it is seldom used because white wool is both easier to color and does not show through the outer material when used as a lining. So black wool is often a “waste product” – but not for us. SWISSWOOL also guarantees a fair price for raw wool at collection points in often very remote valleys. After the raw wool has been weighed, it is washed and then processed, always utilizing the shortest possible transportation routes.

PERTEX® QUANTUM PRO
PERTEX® QUANTUM PRO is an extremely light, windproof and abrasion-resistant material with highly water-resistant qualities. Thanks to an ultra-thin polyurethane coating on the inside of the material, PERTEX® QUANTUM PRO offers very high weather protection – even in extreme conditions. This also increases the insulating qualities of the SWISSWOOL lining material.

This is a really good insulated jacket. I am a big fan of the Ortovox brand and love that they use natural wool in their outerwear jackets. I tested this jacket up on the Sierras in cold/snowy weather and the jacket held up very well. The quality of construction is very good and I didn't see any wool fibers or loose threads sticking out. I like the fact that the hood is insulated. I wore this jacket as an outer layer for a ski run and it performed well. Here are my gripes now - It's missing a few pockets for me - i am a big fan of the chest pocket, and inner pockets...none of which are present on this jacket. It does have a ski pass pocket which came in handy. The fit of the jacket is ""regular"", and you can layer pretty easily underneath. Personally, I loved the Piz Bianco jacket a lot more (even though it's missing a few features too) because it fits closer to the body and hence kept me warmer with fewer layers. In summary, the Verbier is a rock solid no-nonsense jacket that will keep you warm and dry anywhere you go. It's stylish enough to wear around town too. If you are OK missing out on a few pockets, you should seriously consider this jacket. You won't be disappointed!

Finally a worthy successor and a sensible further development of the old Piz Bianco, which still had 200g/m2. Since the new one was only 150 g/m2, a really warm jacket was missing from the line-up. And now it's finally back! The upgrades to the adjustable hood, the pockets that are now finally suitable for backpacks, etc. all work very well! I grabbed it immediately, the jacket is worth the money!
