Lightweight and supple for full freedom of movement when freeriding: The 3L DEEP SHELL JACKET for men offers full protection and high comfort combined with low weight.
The wind- and waterproof DERMIZAX®NX high-performance membrane from Toray is lined with merino wool in areas of the body that are particularly sensitive to the cold, guaranteeing optimum heat retention and a comfortable fit. In stormy conditions, the two-way adjustable storm hood and adjustable waistband and cuffs provide additional protection. But when the going gets tough, the ergonomic underarm ventilation zippers provide additional ventilation.
Small objects that you need to access quickly can easily be stored in the spacious front pockets, inner pocket or ski pass pocket. One particularly practical feature is the integrated cell phone pocket in the front left pocket, where merino mesh protects your battery against the cold.
Thanks to its robust membrane and flat seams, the 3L DEEP SHELL JACKET for men is particularly durable and long-wearing. It is also PFC-free and climate-neutral in the interest of sustainability. Green light for mindful freeriders!

I bought the jacket after my old jacket from another brand (from sweden) has begun to dissolve after almost 10y use. The Ortovox deep shell look great but unfortunately the quality is too poor for this price. Not durable enough, so that after one season the merino wool inserts near the collar are already worn by my stubble. Thats a no go. Never had that with any other jacket before! Also the outershell is a little bit too thin according to my personal taste. When it's windy on the mountains I need one more additional midlander compared to the old jacket. I'm wearing the jacket for 80% freeriding and 20% splitboard tours. So 20% of the time I'm wearing a backpack. The backpack caused abortions on the jacket which also shows the little durability of the fabric. FYI: I'm using the same ortovox backpack like with my old swedish jacket. So after 1,5y using the jacket, I can't recommend the jacket for this far too high price! Ortovox please design products which are more durable and well tested. Design and lightweight isn't everything. Thanks.

I use this jacket for a combination of alpine touring and ice climbing, in both the Northeast and the French Alps. Though designed primarily for skiing, as an Ortovox Athlete, I wanted to test it out in climbing applications. I've found it exceedingly functional in both contexts. Ice climbing and ski touring actually have a lot in common: Intense stretches of activity, followed by lower aerobic stretches. The pit zips help in skirting between these extremes. I find the jacket to have the features I want, without the added weight of unnecessary features I don't want. It's got two spacious chest pockets, providing for easy access even with a harness on. One of the chest pockets has an interior stretch pocket that's useful for storing keys, a Garmin Mini InReach, or other things that you don't want to lose when fishing for your phone or snacks. Depending on how you access the backcountry (lift versus skinning), you might find the zipper pocket on the left arm to be an unnecessary addition. And the waterproofing has proved itself time and time again while standing under dripping icicles while climbing and while being pummeled with sleet on Northeast backcountry days. Since I'm an Ortovox Athlete, you've got a right to be a bit circumspect about my review, but I can tell you that this is a piece that I truly believe in and a product that I use daily, with confidence and with enjoyment, in the field.
