Weatherproof, lightweight freeriding BIB with merino inserts for the backcountry
Highlights
- Lightweight and supple
- Loose cut for great freedom of movement
- Merino wool in areas sensitive to the cold
Lightweight and supple for full freedom of movement when freeriding: The 3L DEEP SHELL BIB PANTS for men offer full protection and high comfort combined with low weight.
The wind- and waterproof DERMIZAX®NX high-performance membrane from Toray is lined with merino wool in areas of the body that are particularly sensitive to the cold, guaranteeing optimum heat retention and a comfortable fit. To protect the sensitive kidney area, these freeriding pants are cut especially high and can be optimally adjusted to fit using the hook and loop fastener at the waist.
These lightweight freeriding pants have anatomically shaped knees and a comfortable cut to guarantee freedom of movement in any terrain. Ventilation zippers on the sides provide additional ventilation when the going gets tough. The zippers are also set toward the back and can be opened all the way up, making comfort breaks much easier.
The spacious, extended thigh pockets ensure everything can be neatly stowed away and yet accessed quickly. The avalanche transceiver carabiner integrated into the right pocket provides a permanent place for your avalanche transceiver.
Thanks to their robust membrane and flat seams, the 3L DEEP SHELL BIB PANTS for men are particularly durable and long-wearing. The integrated Dyneema-Cordura gaiters and sharp-edge protectors provide additional protection when freeriding. The pants are also PFC-free and climate neutral in the interest of sustainability. Green light for mindful freeriders!

Great bib in functionality and fit. But after only one season (less than 20 days of touring) fabric started pilling and eventually tore at the crotch area. Filled a warranty claim; but haven't received any answer back in over a month after the automated confirmation. Not only disappointed in the quality of the product but also in the aftercare.

I have done about 25 tours in these bibs in weather ranging from brutally cold to "normal" winter touring temperatures. I am 6'3", 186 lbs and am very happy with the XL size. Up until now I have never worn bibs but I have to say I am very happy with the fit of these and in particular the freedom of movement. Going up the skin track I hardly feel any fabric resistance in my legs which is great! My only knock so far is I already have a minor cut in the boot cuff (which I sewed up no problem) but i am nervous for the long term durability. I have also not yet tested them in rain which hopefully will demonstrate their waterproof characteristics. At this point I would definitely buy again.

I've had these pants for only one season and have done only two runs (around 4 hours all together) in friendly conditions without falling - before the material in the ankle area tore (probably from the ski edges). The protection on the legs is very weak and can't be compared to the other brands I've used for over 10 years, especially at this price range.

Super Bewegungsfreiheit, gut geschnitten und sehr angenehmes Tragegefühl! Nahezu perfekte Hose für alle Freerider, die gerne lange Anstiege für ihre Abfahrt in Kauf nehmen.

I have not had a pair of bibs since I was a kid, so I was a little hesitant but these are awesome. They are lightweight and strong without feeling stiff and uncomfortable. I mostly use them for resort skiing but have toured in them a handful of times. I like the positioning and size of all the pockets. I am 6'7" with a 31" waist and the Mediums fit me really well. They are a touch on the short side, but I am a touch on the tall side so it makes sense, they still work great for me. They look like flood pant when I am wearing shoes but fit great with my ski boots on. I work as a full time mountain guide and am a member of the Ortovox team.

The fit of these pants is great as are the pockets and vents. I bought them with hopes of a resort pant I can tour in. It’s more of a light touring fabric that isn’t as warm as a true 3L gore or comparable pant. They’re going to be great touring bibs for cold days but definitely need to layer up more than I usually care to. Even in the 20s with a warm base pant they’re a bit cold.

Many nice features and very comfortable. Good weather protection and breathability for freetouring. However, the durability is very poor. Ortovox claims that "Thanks to their robust membrane and flat seams, the 3L DEEP SHELL BIB PANTS for men are particularly durable and long-wearing". After only seven (7!!) trips to the mountain the seams in the groin area has gone apart, resulting in a 4 cm long hole. For the price point (for any price point?), this is extremely disappointing. Would not recommend this product.
