Robust, lightweight climbing pants for demanding climbs

Lightweight, breathable summer climbing pants with adjustable ankle cuffs

Highlights

  • Full freedom of movement thanks to the elastic main material
  • High scuff resistance (>30,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test)
  • Water-resistant and light
  • Robust inserts around the chin for protection against rugged rock faces

Lightweight products can also be robust: The VAJOLET climbing pants for men combine summery lightness with scuff resistance and are at home on steep rock faces. The MERINO SHIELD ULTRA LIGHT line’s thin, elastic main material guarantees the necessary freedom of movement – no matter how demanding a climb may be. Inserts made of scuff-resistant material also protect from rugged rock. We use a new wool elastic made from fine Tasmanian merino wool for the adjustable waistband, ensuring optimum temperature and moisture regulation. Other features such as the bonded map pocket or the pre-adjusted seam make the VAJOLET PANTS the perfect alpine companion – on the bizarre rock formations of the Vajolet towers in the Dolomites just as much as on the steep rock faces of the Wilder Kaiser.

These pants are my favorite climbing pant. I own two pairs, the Yellowstone and Dark Blood options. I picked up my first pair last September in the Dolomites and used them on several long routes during that trip. I am 6'2" and 175 with an athletic frame. I bought these in size Medium and feel that was the best fit for me. I could wear a Large but they would be just a bit baggy for my preference. The pants are extremely well thought out and constructed. The waist is adjustable via a velcro tab in the front, no button opening. There is a zip fly which is handy. The cut through the butt and quads is trim but not skinny. Two front pockets and one zip pocket on the right thigh. The knees are articulated so there is no binding whatsoever on highsteps, etc.. The pant legs hit just above my shoes, perfect for seeing my feet. I haven't needed to use the cinch closure. The fabric is fantastic, lightweight and so far really durable. I have used these on everything from Dolomite limestone to aiding/jugging/climbing on granite walls, no rips or tears! The color schemes are pretty sweet and unique. I have always been a fan of brighter colors so Ortovox comes through for me in this area. Over decades of climbing I have worn many pairs of climbing pants and still own a variety of brands. I can honestly say that the Vajolet pants are my favorites and the ones I choose over all the other lonely pants in my closet.

Great alpine rock pants. Fabric has excellent stretch amount, is light wind-resistant, and a nice feel to it. Classic ORTOVOX style and colors. Cuffs work well. Elastic/velcro is low profile and keeps the waist up under a harness. My favorite pants for routes from the Dibona on Cima Grande to the Scenic Cruise. I'm 6'2", 195, 32x34. I have medium in these and it works well. Many mediums are right in the waist but way to tight in the legs and butt. I could wear a MTall size if they made it, but these are fine.

Climbers love them! 911 operators don't. These are my favorite climbing pants and they work great. My only caveat is that the pocket material seems to activate the screen of my cell phone and I've now pocket dialed emergency services on several occasions hiking down from climbing. A alternate lock screen has fixed this issue.
