The life story of Andy Holzer is as stimulating as admirable. The blind mountain climber masters his life better than many who can see. Many alpine climbing tours, ski tours and mountain bike rides can be found in his tour book.
"Black and nevertheless so colorful. I have been blind from birth. I have never seen the world with the eyes of a sighted person - but because of this my world is very tangible. My ideas of what things look like arise from the descriptions given by other people, from feeling, smelling and tasting. Big North Faces in the Dolomites can transform into sun-warmed South Faces; small ledges become platforms - it doesn't matter whether on point or following up. The most important thing for me, much more important than the difficulty rating, is trust in my special rope partner. Andreas Unterkreuter is one of these people. Together with him in fall I stood on the Carstensz Pyramid, the highest mountain in Oceania, one of the 7 summits. Accompanied by him I envision myself standing on the last, still unclimbed peaks."
